There are many different varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu has a flavor and can be used in savory and sweet dishes. It is often seasoned or marinated to suit the dish.

Although only found in Asian food markets, this seemingly bland food can take on the flavor of its surrounding ingredients making it a highly versatile as well as highly nutritious part of a healthy diet. Tofu is a highly protein-rice food that is made from the curds of soybean milk. Off-white in color, it is usually sold in rectangular blocks.


Fermented bean curd or bean cake is also known as perserved bean curd or wet bean curd or bean cheese (fu yu; foo yi; foo yu). It is cubes of tofu immersed in a broth and has a very pungent aroma and strong, cheesy flavor. It comes in two colors. The white version is often served with rice or used to flavor soups and vegetable dishes, while the red often accompanies meats. It comes in jars or crocks in Asian markets.


In this dish, ground beef with condiments are first cooked in oven, before braised with tofu in Foo Yi .



Ingredients and Preparation - Part 1

Prepare -

  • carrots - 1 medium-sized (diced), 
  • fresh mushroom - 1 cup (diced),
  • onions - 1 large (diced), 
  • parsley - 2 tbs (sliced),
  • cauliflower leaves -3 (sliced)
Prepare -

  • 1 lb ground beef.












Cooking Steps - 1

Begin, by mixing all the prepared condiments and ground beef in a bowl.







For flavor, add:-

  • 3 tbs beef stock,
  • 1/2 tsp pepper, 
  • 1 tbs sesame oil.


Transfer to an oven pan and cook in oven at 400 F for 30 minutes.













Ingredients and Preparation - Part 2

Prepare -

  • diced soft tofu.




Prepare -

  • bell pepper - 1 cup (sliced), 
  • garlic - 4 cloves (diced), 
  • chili - 3 pcs, 
  • green onions - 3 stalks (sliced)

Using commercial available - Fermented Beancurd with Sesame oil.
















Cooking Steps - 2

Begin, by adding 2 cups water, cooked ground beef mixture (removed from oven) with garlic, chilli, bell peppers in a skillet over medium heat. Keep boiling for 10 minutes..

For flavor, add:-

  • 4 tbs fermented beancurd, 
  • 1/2 tsp pepper, 1
  • 1 tbs sesame oil, 
  • 3 tbs chicken stock brand.                                   Add green onions when ready to serve.
